I just realized that I haven't posted a single post about our garden this season since the time it looked like this. And that was 5 months ago! Since then, a lot of plants grew, fed our family and friends with their bounty, and ended their life cycle as new ones were beginning theirs. It was an amazingly productive garden season, and we were really happy with how well everything grew. We ate well from our garden this year, and in lieu of pictures of the actual garden, here are a couple pictures of our garden harvests in September and October. Prior to the food in these pictures being harvested, we ate lots of lettuce, cucumbers, green beans, tomatoes, peppers, radishes, carrots, peas, onions and other assorted veggies all summer long. I sure love our garden!
September 10th - My beautiful little pie pumpkins, about 70 pounds of pears from our ancient pear tree, lots and lots of tomatoes, and some cucumbers, peppers and radishes:

September 18th - More tomatoes (they are never ending it seems), potatoes, shallots, onions, and cucumbers.

We had a great potato harvest this year! We planted Russets and Yukon Golds, and both kinds did very well:

September 27th - More tomatoes! Peppers, shallots, cucumbers, and zucchini.

October 4th - Tomatoes, peppers, green beans from the fall garden plantings, the last of the shallots, and a couple lonely cucumbers.

We had one more good harvest from the garden that I forgot to take a picture of (it was mostly bell peppers) before we ripped everything out this weekend. Its just too cold for the warm season loving plants, and the slugs were having a field day with the worn out, sorry looking plants. But we still have a great fall garden going, containing lettuce, peas, carrots, turnips, and radishes. Who says gardening is only a summer hobby?! I am looking forward to eating well off our garden for at least a couple more months!
