Oh baby! I am SO excited about this purchase, I have wanted a new camera for so long and today I finally decided which one to get and ran out and bought it before I changed my mind. Its really hard for me to spend this amount of money on something for myself, and something that we don't truly need, but now that I have it I don't regret it for one second. I am so in love!
I talked to a bunch of photographer friends, read a zillion reviews, and compared a bunch of different cameras. It finally came down to one - the Nikon D5100. *swoon* It came with an 18-55 lens, and I bought a 55-300 lens as well. Its going to take some time getting used to switching around different lenses, but I have a feeling it wont be long before I add a few more to the family. They can do so many neat things! So, without further adieu, here it is!

Of course, the picture doesn't do it any justice, as it was taken by my old camera. But still...isn't it beautiful!? I am so excited about the pictures I will be able to take with this camera after I learn all the functions. Matthew is encouraging me to take some time for myself and sign up for a photography class, and I think I might just do that after the holidays are done. Its amazing what a difference there is in quality vs my old Cannon camera, even when shooting in auto. For example, these two pictures were taken right after one another, in the same conditions, same lighting, same everything and not retouched at all. Check out the difference!

New wonderful camera:

Whoohoo! It will be a while before I figure all the settings out, and a friend is helping me choose a good editing software. Until I do those two things I don't expect the pictures to come to knock anybody's socks off but one day soon....you're gonna be barefoot! ;)
