I sat down with the kids tonight to make an Advent calendar, a fun little project to make the days leading up to Christmas even more magical!
I had no design to follow, but had a vision in my head so we just winged it. I drew squares and rectangles on a brown paper bag, in varying shapes and sizes. After I cut them apart, I used each as a template to make a colored version of the shape out of card stock:

I had printed out some numbers online, so we cut those into circles and glued them to the card stock pieces. I had planned on backing each piece with some printed scrap booking paper, but by this time the kids were getting eager to be done so we left them plain:

We jazzed them up with some sparkly Christmas cutouts, and stuck a magnet on the back of each so we could put the whole thing on the fridge:

For each day through Christmas, Matthew and I will write something special for the kids to do that day. Things like going downtown to see the Christmas tree, reading an extra chapter of the book we are reading together, making cookies, that sort of thing. The kids are really excited about this idea, and truthfully I am too. It makes the holiday season even more fun when you have something exciting to look forward to each day!
