Full Day Kindergarten

Since school started back in September, Rowan has been in a half day, duel language Spanish program. She is absolutely thriving in school, and amazes me with how much Spanish she is learning and speaking on a daily basis. She has made some really great little friends, and adores her teacher (so do I!). But about 2/3 of the Kindergartners were put into full day classes from the start, because the entrance testing showed that they needed some extra help. And apparently some of the parents have noticed that those kids are speaking Spanish a LOT more fluently than our little half day kids are. So a few days before Winter break started, I got a call from one of the afternoon Spanish teachers offering Rowan (and all the other morning only kids) the chance to start attending full day classes when school started back up in January.

I asked Rowan what she thought and she was SO excited! Like, practically jumping up and down squealing excited. Of course, the two things she mentioned most looking forward to were lunch and recess, so I don't know if she understands that there is more to being full day than those two special events. I was actually on the fence about it, I think mostly because she is my little baby, and going to full day kindergarten means that she is growing up that much faster. Besides, what would I do all day without Rowan home for part of the day with me!? But Matthew said we should let her go if she wanted, and Rowan was so excited that I just couldn't let my feelings get in the way of her having such a great opportunity.

So starting today, Rowan will still be with her morning Spanish teacher (and alternate every other day with her same morning English teacher) but after lunch and recess, she will go to her afternoon teachers class to spend the rest of her school day immersed in Spanish learning. Its hard...she is ready to spread her wings and fly, while I am really struggling with letting her go. I am going to miss her so much, but I am also really excited for her and am thrilled that she has this opportunity. I cant wait to see how much better her Spanish speaking gets to.

Usted está haciendo un gran trabajo en la escuela de Rowan, y mamá y papá está muy orgulloso de ti!!
