To the beach!

When we learned that Matthew was going to be spending the next three months in Minnesota for work, I was understandably pretty bummed out. But when I realized that there was a good chance we were going to have to change all the fun plans we had already made, I was even more bummed out! Luckily, it looks like the schedule he is going to follow for weekends home is going to work out perfectly. This weekend is a great example! We bought a Groupon deal for a hotel in Lincoln City about 3 months ago, and had already booked our 2 night stay for this weekend. I didn't think Matthew was going to be able to join us at first, but the timing was just right! He flew in early this morning, and we practically drove straight to the beach from the airport. When the kids finally got out of the car and onto the beach, they ran for freedom:

They set down their buckets, and got started on building sandcastles right away. Rowan found a great little spot to gather decorations - tiny rocks and shells:

Matthew pondered deep thoughts, as he usually does when we get this close to the ocean:

And Killian thought up a genius castle building technique. Wet sand through a funnel makes awesome spirals and towers!

Blue skies and sandy beaches....it was a gorgeous day on the Oregon coast:

Rowan bringing over her bucket full of rocks. She had ditched the teeny tiny ones, and found some big ones instead. They looked heavy:

The finished project!

I am so glad to have this handsome man home. Even if it is just for a few days, I will take any time I can get:

Beautiful weather, and a beautiful girl. They go together like sandcastles and the beach!

Killian constructing a track for his sand trucks....cars and racing are never far from this boys mind:

I sure love these two!!

A very shadowy, but neat picture of Rowan and I, walking back from filling her bucket full of water:

More sand play:

The kids and I:

I could not stop hugging Matthew! I have just missed him so much, and its so awesome to be able to spend the day together. Absence definitely makes the heart grow fonder...but my heart was already very very fond of him!

After we put the kids to bed, we sat outside, had a drink, and watched the sunset. It was the perfect end to an absolutely wonderful day:

Someone is not thrilled out early morning pictures!

Luckily, someone else is. I love how the sunshine is lighting up her face, she is such a beautiful little girl:

We just kind of hung out together today. We spent some time on the beach, went to the outlet stores, spent more time on the beach, hung out in the hotel room, and then headed back down to the beach for the last time. The kids really made the most of it! They were running around and having a blast. And totally being silly and cracking each other up. It is the best thing in the world to see your kids so happy!

Yes. Yes he most certainly is!

We sat around the fire for a while, and watched the sun go down. We have to leave early in the morning to drive Matthew straight back to the airport, so it was kind of a sad mood around the hotel room. Sometimes I wonder how we are going to make it through 2 more months of this, and then I realize we have no choice. But I know we can do it, we just need to make sure to treasure the moments that we have like this. They feel like they mean so much more now than they did before. I am so grateful for Matthew, and my two beautiful kids. Life is difficult right now, but it is also completely, and wonderfully perfect.
