Our baby birds have hatched! It's been a few days since we have checked on them, and today when we went out to have a look it seemed as though the Mama bird was still sitting on the nest.
Until she flew away. Then we saw these little guys!
Four teeny tiny little babies, so ugly that they are cute. Look at the size of those mouths!
We stayed a good distance away, and zoomed in for a closer look with the camera so that Mama bird wouldn't get too freaked out. She watched us closely from a couple feet away, hoping back and forth on the fence waiting for us to leave:
I have never seen such teeny little birds before, and the kids were just as excited as I was to see these little guys go from egg to baby bird. Good timing too - we leave tomorrow for Minnesota and would have missed seeing them completely if they hadn't hatched when they did. We are hoping that they will be safe while we are gone, and that the Mama bird comes back to nest here again next year!
