Trisha, the kids and I took Sugar and some of Trisha's other dogs out to Sauvies Island today for some retriever water training. This is the first time Sugar has had a chance to play in water like this,a and the first time she has ever tried water retrieving. At first, the dogs just sniffed around the water, checking it out:

And then they were all in at once!

Rowan had a great time wadding in the water with the dogs, finding sticks to throw for them:
Sugar, at the end of the day, tired, wet and happy.
It was really neat to see just how instinctive retrieving is for her. This was her first time swimming, yet she paddled around like a champ (much better than another one of the dogs, who was on her third time swimming). She went after the bumper every time it was thrown, and brought it back more often than not. She loved playing with the other dogs too, so I am sure this wont be the last time we take her out for a little practice!
