A day at the river

Angie, her husband Brett and I took all the kids out to a river near their house today, for some fun in this beautiful June sunshine. Angie lives about an hour away from us, so by the time we got to her house, got everything packed up and drove out to the river, it was lunchtime. So while we unpacked and cooked lunch, the kids got busy making little rafts to float down the river:

Rowan's raft is on the left, Killian's on the right. They were so proud of their creations, and couldn't wait to get them out on the water to see how they did.

They waded out a little, set their boats in the water, and let the currents do the rest:

After the rafts had floated out of sight, the kids got busy making mountains and castles out of the sand:

Baby Callie did not approve of all the shrieks and giggles and general shenanigans that the bigger kids were up to:

So off she toddled, with her adorable bare baby butt taking her off to greener (and quieter!) pastures:

We ended up spending the rest of the afternoon and early evening at the river. It was a lot of fun, and just the sort of memories that I hope the kids remember when they are older. Sand, water, good friends and great conversations - the stuff that the best summer day trips are made of!
