A lazy day

Today was a totally lazy day at home! I always plan SO much for the kids and I to do during the summer vacation, and I often forget the importance of says where we have nothing planned, and the kids can just be kids. They did exactly that today! They got together with our neighbor kids, and decided to build a sled that they could attach to a bike so that they could drive each other around the cul de sac. I helped by gathering some scrap wood leftover from various building projects, and the kids did the rest. They built quite a contraption!

It looked like it would work, and we spent a lot of time trying different set ups, but in the end it was either too heavy or too bulking to pull around. It didn't seem to matter much to the kids though, they happily spent a couple hours building, rebuilding, and huffing and puffing around the cul de sac, dragging that sled behind them.

Later that night Killian and Rowan asked if they could set the tent up - all of us are really anxious for our favorite summer activity....camping! It was a rainy and cold night though, so setting up outside would have been miserable. This is June in Oregon after all! So we did the next best thing, and set the tent, air mattresses and sleeping bags up in Killian's room!

I really love how sweet Killian is with Rowan, and how willing he is to include her in the things that he is doing. I know there are a lot of big brothers out there that would be horrified at the idea of sharing their room, time and stuff with their little sister, but not Killian. I am so lucky to have both of these kids, and I think they understand how lucky they are to have each other too. It's a really special relationship that I hope will continue to be just as strong as they grow older.
