Matthew is coming home today!!! I don't think there are enough exclamation points in the world to express how absolutely thrilled I am that he is almost back home. Its been a long, difficult three months without him - I'm not sure that anyone can fully understand how hard it is unless they have been in a similar situation. The kids and I have missed him so much, in so many different ways.
We decided to make a welcome home sign for him, so we rolled out a long piece of butcher paper and got to work. I drew all the letters, and then the kids and I colored each of them in. We had a lot of fun with it, and filled the blank areas with lots of pictures. Rowan got especially creative with her letters and drawings - she is such a little artist!

We knew we wanted to get some balloons to put up along with the banner, but we had no idea how challenging that would be to do! We went to three different stores nearby, and not a single one of them had helium. Apparently there is some nation wide helium shortage?!!? Who knew! Finally we found a store that had some, and the kids picked out a couple mylars as well as a handful of latex balloons. We got home and hung everything up, and it turned out really nice!

A close up of the sign - you can see all the cute animals and pictures the kids drew to decorate the sign (click on the picture to enlarge):

We leave in just a couple hours to go pick him up, and can barely contain ourselves. This will be the happiest homecoming ever!
