A new addition to the familly

We bought Matthew's car used when Rowan was just a few months old, and it was reliable mode of transportation for him for many years. It's always had a few quirks - a pesky oil leak, a brake light bulb that burned out every few months, but we hadn't needed to put much money into it and it got him to and from work just fine. When he went to Minnesota earlier this year, his car sat sad and lonely in the driveway for 3 months - I may have started it a time or two, but I certainly didn't give it any extra special attention. It started right up when he got home though, so it seemed all was well and a little neglect hadn't hurt it.

Until it stopped on the side of the road and refused to budge. Luckily he was right outside our neighborhood when it stalled, and he was able to coast it a few blocks in and pull over to the side of the road. We walked down together later that afternoon and pushed it the 3 blocks to home (yay for Crossfit muscles!!). We were hoping it was something minor, but the car made up for all those lost mechanic bills the last few years and needed a whole new transmission. His car was a 95 Toyota Camry - a great car to be sure, but not one we would bother putting a new transmission in! So we had it towed to the junk yard, pocketed $400 for the scrap metal and set out to find Matthew a new ride!

He scoured the for sale ads for a few days until he came up with a few likely candidates, and after car shopping for many hours (why does it always take SO long?!?!) we came home with his new baby, a 2010 Mazda 3! Isn't it pretty??

It's really nice to see Matthew have something new that is all his - he works so hard for our family, but rarely does he spend money on himself or get new "toys". So I am really excited for him, and hope that he enjoys cruising around town in his new ride!
