We have two new additions to the family! Meet Turbo (the black hamster) and Daisy (the brown and white hamster):

Rowan loves to learn about animals, and will spend hours on the computer looking up different critters and learning all she can about them. For the past few months that research has been centered on small animals - hamsters, guinea pigs, mice and rats. This girl has never met an animal or reptile that she does love! She has been especially interested in hamsters after reading about what great little pets they can be, and after hearing about how much I loved the hamsters I had when I was growing up.
Hearing Rowan talk everyday about how cute/wonderful/adorable hamsters are, and how much she wanted one, Killian got on the bandwagon too, and decided that he needed an adorable little critter of his own. Only problem was that hamsters require a lot of stuff to get started - cages, food, toys, water bottles, wheels, shavings, etc. I made a deal with the kids that if we could find most of the stuff they would need on Craiglist, and if they did chores to earn the money to buy their new little friends, that they would be able to each get a hamster. They were SO excited! They started looking for cages on Craiglist every day, and it didn't take us long to find two practically brand new ones. A few chores, some more research, and a few books from the library on critter care, and we were good to go.
Today was the big day and we went to our local pet store to find our new friends. There were 7 hamsters for sale, and we asked to look at/meet each one. I'm sure the saleslady wasn't thrilled with us, but we wanted to get a friendly, sociable little guy. Killian loved Turbo right away (she is actually a girl, but he wanted her to have a manly name) and she is just the sweetest, most docile, relaxed little thing ever. So super sweet. Rowan picked out Daisy, who is also sweet and cute, but has a little more spunk to her - just like Rowan! We packed up our new friends in their cardboard travel carriers, and rushed home to get them settled.
Per our hamster books, we aren't supposed to play with them for a couple days, so that they can get used to their new homes and feel safe. So those are the best pictures I have for now - I'm sure the blog will be overloaded with furry hamster cuteness soon though!
