We packed up the campsite, and headed out for the long drive home today. We ended up going a slightly different route, so we headed through the mountains and passed by Sisters and Black Butte Ranch, which both look like places we are going to have to come back and visit, and we also passed by Detroit Lake which was PACKED with people. I don't think I've ever seen so many boats and people out on a lake before. I cant blame everyone for seeking out water though - it was broiling hot outside!
We stopped for lunch at a Forest Station just past the lake, and ate quickly in the car - it was way too hot to sit outside. The kids got some little goody bags from the Rangers at the Station, so that helped to keep them occupied on the long drive home.
We made a quick pit stop at Detroit Dam a few miles down the road, just because it looked cool and you don't get to see dams that often.

The side of the dam pictured above was so pretty! But this other side made me a little sick to my stomach - I'm not a big fan of heights, especially ones like this! You can get I cautioned the kids "be careful!! Don't lean out too far":

I felt much better once we were back on level ground! The rest of the ride home was uneventful, and boy, were we glad to get unpacked, showered and into our nice cozy beds. I love a good summer adventure as much as the next person, but there is sure something to be said for the comforts of home!
