How short is too short?

Rowan had her first haircut about 4 months ago. I have never seen someone more excited to get a haircut, and she was so thrilled with her shorter hair. The next day she wanted to go back for another haircut! I told her that she should wait a few months, but she kept asking about once every week if it was time to get another haircut. A couple weeks ago she went with me to take Killy in for a trim, and we were thumbing through the hairstyle magazines that they had there. I was showing her some pictures of women with goofy haircuts. I was teasing her saying "You should get your hair cut like this, or this or this". She was giggling and laughing along, until we flipped to a page of men's hairstyles. She got really excited and said "There! I want my hair cut just like that - like brothers"!! She is my little tomboy, there is no doubt about it!

Over the next few weeks she kept insisting that her hair was too long and that she reaaaaally needed it cut. I talked it over with Matthew, and we decided that if she wanted it shorter, she could get it cut. We weren't willing to get it cut like Killian's though - she has to be old enough to understand the magnitude of that decision! So we settled on the length of her shortest strand of hair, which was just about chin length. I wish I would have had my camera with me when we went to get it cut. She was grinning ear to ear and was so excited she could barely contain herself. Once it was cut she kept running her hand on the back of her neck, and saying that she loved it. When Matthew got home that night she ran to show him, and told him "Now I look like a real Rowan". I guess she had been faking it all that time ;)
